Nikita Magaloff, 80, a Russian-born pianist who played with orchestras throughout the world, died Saturday in Vevey, Switzerland. He was hospitalized Dec. 13 and died of a "long illness," according to the Samaritans hospital. Born in St. Petersburg in 1912, Mr. Magaloff fled the Soviet Union in 1919 and went to Paris. Mr. Magaloff moved to Switzerland in 1939 to escape World War II. The same year, he married Irene Szigeti. He made his U.S. debut as a soloist in San Francisco in January 1947. His last appearance in the United States was with the New York Philharmonic in September 1985.
