Fire kills woman,66

December 28, 1992

A Glen Burnie woman died yesterday when she became trapped in her burning third-floor apartment, officials said.

Firefighters found Beulah M. Jones, 66, collapsed behind the locked door of her apartment in the 200 block of Southbridge Drive, said Capt. Gary Sheckells of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. She was pronounced dead a short time later at North Arundel Hospital.

The fire which the captain said apparently was caused by careless smoking, was reported by a neighbor at 7:05 p.m. The neighbor had tried to get into the apartment to help but the door was locked, he said.

The fire was confined to the bedroom and caused an estimated $25,000 damage, Captain Sheckells said. No other apartments were damaged.
