Waste water plant set to open Jan. 11

December 27, 1992

The newly constructed septage facility at the Westminster Waste Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to open Jan. 11.

Septage haulers licensed by the Carroll County Health Department will be charged for septage discharge according to a flat-rate system based on the size of the septic tank or other type of septic system.

A manifest will be completed and signed by each hauler documenting the location and size of the septic system pumped.

Because septic haulers will base rates to customers on the size of the tank pumped, it will be helpful for homeowners to know the size of the septage tank on their property.

The Carroll County Health Department has provided the following general guidelines to determine tank size:

* For homes constructed from 1968 to Feb. 1, 1988:

1. Three or four bedrooms -- 750-gallon tank.

2. Three bedrooms with garbage disposal -- 1,000-gallon tank.

L 3. Four bedrooms with garbage disposal -- 1,200-gallon tank.

* For homes constructed from Feb. 1, 1988 to present (including garbage disposal):

1. Three bedrooms -- 1,000-gallon tank.

2. Four bedrooms -- 1,250-gallon tank.

3. Add 250 gallons per bedroom.

Additional information may be obtained from the health department if you can provide a permit number.

Information: 857-2145.
