December 27, 1992

A Baltimore man was charged yesterday with beating his wife to death in their Remington home, and another man was shot to death on North Avenue in the city's two latest killings, which bring the year's total to 327, police said.

Ronald Forbes, 35, of the 2900 block of Miles Ave., was charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of his wife, Barbara A. Forbes, 32.

Investigators were called at 5:10 a.m. to the couple's home, where they found the woman dead and arrested Mr. Forbes.

Police said they did not know the motive for the slaying.

Police were also trying to determine a motive in the shooting death of Marvin Levi Smith, 26, of the 3100 block of Belmont Ave.

Mr. Smith was found on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of W. North Ave. at 4:44 a.m., police said.

They were looking for a gunman described as black, 25 to 30 years old, weighing 165 pounds, and with his head shaved on the sides and hair long on top, police said. The man was wearing a long yellow coat, police said.
