Around the house

* Keep warranties from Christmas gifts in an accordion folder and organize them by category. They will be easily accessible when needed.

* Clean dirt and grime from telephone at least once a month. Use a diluted disinfectant cleaner solution in a plastic spray bottle. Do not spray solution into transmitter holes. Spray top, sides of receiver and the base of the unit. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

* Soak washable candle holders such as glass or ceramic in hot water to remove accumulated wax. Rub wax off when it has softened. Be careful not to scratch finish.

* Remove spattered candle wax from walls by scraping the excess off with a blunt knife. Hold several facial tissues against wall and place warm iron on low setting on the tissues. When remaining wax is absorbed, replace with clean tissues and continue to iron until wax disappears.

* Freshen stale bread. Sprinkle with a few drops of water an wrap in aluminum foil. Place in oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

* Clean spills in a continuous-cleaning oven with warm water an a soft nylon brush. Do not use chemical cleaners or abrasives on the rough finish of the interior.

* Conserve heat. Cover a drafty window with a colorful quilt. O make a pop-in frame panel to fit your window and cover with fabric.

* Remove tea and coffee stains from tablecloths. Rinse clot with cold water and rub salt into the stain until it disappears. Rinse and air dry.

In the garden

* Rotate houseplants regularly. If plants are turned one-quarter turn each time they are watered, they will grow straight. Otherwise they will bend toward the light.
