TC RING IN THE NEW: Count down 1992's last minutes a Provident Bank of Maryland's Neighborhood New Year's Eve from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Baltimore Convention Center, 1 W. Pratt St. The year-end gala is a family-oriented event, with lots of fun for kids.

Kinderman John Taylor will entertain children along with magicians, jugglers, clowns and a face painter. Observe magic tricks and take home balloon animals.

Leave the kids' area, and you'll find live music, including the Motown sounds of the Marvelettes; Regency, a five-man a capella group; and the Caribbean style of Mama Jama. With comedian Bob Somerby in one area and a karaoke machine in another, guests can party the night away.

Admission: $7 adults, $5 children 12 and under. Snacks and beverages included. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at all Provident locations. Information: 837-4636.

Don't get too caught up in the revelry and miss the fireworks. Right before midnight, take the Skywalk to the Inner Harbor, where a musically choreographed fireworks display will light up the sky.

GARDEN DELIGHT: Nothing fascinates kids like a Christmas garden, with its tiny towns and bridges, not to mention the trains. On Sunday, take the little ones to the Peale Museum, 225 Holliday St., from noon to 4 p.m. for its "Christmas Garden Open House," where youngsters will be invited to help run the Lionel trains.

For parents, there's a slide show at 2 p.m. entitled "Gardens that Bloom in December." "Gardener" Tom Hooper will offer tips on crafting these holiday wonders. The train garden will be on display through Jan. 17.

Admission: $1.75 adults, 75 cents children 6 to 18. Children under 6 free. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Refreshments. Information: 396-1149.
