New York Mets -- Announced they sold their Triple-A club for more than $7 million to a group led by Tampa, Fla., businessman Ken Young. The team will play in a new 12,000-seat stadium and will be called the Norfolk Tides, a change from the Tidewater Tides.

San Diego Padres -- Signed OF Kevin Ward to a minor-league contract and invited him to spring training as a non-roster player.

Seattle Mariners -- Signed C Mackey Sasser to a two-year contract worth about $1 million. Sasser, a .280 career hitter, batted .241 with 2 HRs and 18 RBI last season for the New York Mets.

West Haven -- Yet-to-be-named Double-A team named Charles J.

Basketball

Atlanta Hawks -- Placed F Dominique Wilkins on the injured list. Signed G Steve Henson.

Boston Celtics -- Signed G John Bagley.

Golden State Warriors -- Activated G Sarunas Marciulionis, who had been recovering from a broken right fibula and dislocated ankle, from the injured list.

Philadelphia 76ers -- Activated F Kenny Payne from the injured list.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff -- Named Lee Hardman football coach.

Bloomsburg -- Named Danny Hale football coach.

UC Davis -- Named Bob Biggs interim football coach.

Maryland -- Announced that sophomore basketball G Alan Rainge has left school in hopes of transferring to a school closer to his home in Pontiac, Mich. Rainge played nine minutes in four games.

Miami -- Signed football coach Dennis Erickson to a seven-year contract through 1999.

Nicholls State -- Named Rick Rhoades, offensive coordinator for two of his three seasons at Kentucky, football coach.

Norfolk State -- Named Archie Cooley, former coach at Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State, football coach.

Pittsburgh -- Named Ken Karcher quarterbacks coach.

Portland State -- Announced that Sonoma State coach Tim Walsh tentatively accepted the head football coaching job.

Springfield -- Announced it will move from Division II to Division III.
