Hampstead to switch health insurance firms

The Hampstead Town Council voted Monday to drop the health insurance provided through the Maryland Municipal League.

Hampstead's two-year contract, with Local Government Insurance Trust, will expire this month. The contract had increased an unprecedented 38 percent, said Town Manager John Reilly.

The new contract, with Principal Investments, will provide the same basic coverage and save the town about $4,800, he said.
