Country music and carols Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. wants to lay about 500 feet of fiber-optic cable across the bottom of Spa Creek, from Chester Avenue to President Street.

The crossing would allow the telephone company to link the fiber optic cable with existing manholes in the city. Five other communication cables, one nearly 30 years old, also cross the creek at nearly the same point.

The company needs a federal permit. The Army Corps of Engineers will accept public comment until Jan. 18.

Lothian man charged after dispute

A Lothian man was charged with assault with intent to murder after police said he beat his wife in a domestic dispute Saturday at their home.

Investigators said they were called to a home in the 1500 block of Hill Road at 10 p.m. to break up a domestic dispute between Terry and Kenneth Robinson.

When they arrived, Mrs. Robinson told the officers that her husband had beat her in the face and head for no reason. She said he also kicked her several times and tried to strangle her, the police report said.

The officers found Mr. Robinson in woods nearby with one of the couple's children, police said. He also was charged with battery, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
