Aberdeen third in gymnastics

The Aberdeen Churchville Parks and Recreation Gymnastics Level 7 team took third place at the Christmas in Annapolis Meet last Saturday.

Alison Sheets of Churchville won first place in vaulting in the 12-14 age group and ninth in the all-around competition.

Erin Nett of Bel Air won the bronze on uneven bars with 8.3. She was sixth in the all-around (31.35).

Kelly Burgos of Abingdon finished fourth on floor exercise with a 8.6 and eighth in the all-around (30.7).

In the 15-and-up age group, Stacey Murnyak of Bel Air won first place in the all-around competition. In Level 5 competition, Becky Strobel of Aberdeen, competing in the 12-14 age group, finished third in the all-around with 32.8 and third on the balance beam with 8.00.

She also finished fourth on bars (8.65) and vaulting (8.05).

Teammate Crystal Stevenson of Fallston finished third on vaulting with 8.45.

Girls soccer

* Under-10 -- The Bel Air travel team defeated White Marsh, 4-3, in indoor action at Perring Athletic Club on Sunday.

Monica Janowitz scored twice and Andrea Waldron once for Bel Air to tie the score. Alison Snyder scored the winning goal in the closing minutes.

AKristin Ivy shut down the White Marsh attack in goal for Bel Air, aided by strong defensive play from the team's fullbacks.

Boys soccer

* Under-14 -- Six Harford County players competing for the Soccer Club of Baltimore Post 38 team joined to win the Mid-Atlantic Regional Indoor Tournament at Myers Pavilion last month.

Eric Litrus, Matt Delaney, Jimmy Baker, Brian Malcolm and John Gostomski (Bel Air) and Aaron Szager (Joppatowne) now will compete in the National Indoor Soccer Championships in Atlanta on March 12-14.

Post 38 defeated five teams to win the regionals. Litrus led the team with nine goals. Delaney scored five, Szager two.

Malcolm, Baker and Gostomski were part of a stingy defense that allowed just four goals.

* Under-12 -- The Forest Hill Force (5-0-1) moved into first place Wednesday with a 7-3 win over the Genstar Booters (5-1-0) at the Maryland Sports Arena in Edgewood.

The Force's Justin Collins, Anthony Collurafici, Eric Duncan, Greg Spalding and Daniel Watts each scored once and had one assist. Eric Blom and Dave Michaels also scored. Mike Duncan and Pat Jackson also had assists.

Pete Golumbek, P. J. Kline, Danny Martin and Kevin Voelker anchored the defense. Blom and Michaels shared time in goal.
