Dearly in the third, the Owls scored 23 of the final 30 points in the quarter to take a 50-34 lead into the fourth.

Up 38-32 with under two minutes remaining in the third, the Owls (2-2) used an effective press to break open the game. Kenya Warfield had the first four points in the 12-2 run.

The Mustangs (2-2) never seriously challenged after that.

"We just decided to turn up the intensity on defense and it showed," said Westminster coach Bernie Koontz.

"We caused some turnovers and got some easy baskets from it and that was the key."

Brooke Holland led the way with 15 points, including 11 in the first half. Denise Bollinger added 11 for the winners.

Westminster opened up eight-point leads in the first and second quarters only to see C. Milton Wright rally late in both.

Early on, the Owls had little problems with the Mustang' press and enjoyed a 16-8 lead before the Mustangs rallied to cut the lead to 16-12 after one.

The Mustangs stayed in the game early with strong rebounding and the outside shooting of Amanda McCulloch, who finished the night with 15.

Trailing 27-19 in the last minute of the second quarter, the Mustangs got hoops from Stacey Milton and McCulloch to cut the lead to 27-23.
