Motorist in Jessup spurns bamboo fan, drives off to foil 0) robbers

Two men tried to rob a motorist Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a Jessup liquor store after asking him if he wanted to buy a bamboo fan, Howard County police said.

The robbers were unsuccessful because the man sped away in his vehicle, police said.

Two men approached the man sitting in his vehicle on the lot of Mel's Liquors on Waterloo Road at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

They asked if the driver wanted to buy a bamboo fan, but he declined, police said.

One man, implying that he had a handgun in his pocket, demanded the driver's wallet, police said, but the motorist fled.

The would-be robbers had left by the time police arrived.
