Baseball Orioles -- Named Fred Manfra radio announcer.

Cincinnati Reds -- Promoted Darrell Rodgers, minor-league pitching coach, to assistant for baseball operations. Agreed to terms on a minor-league contract with P Bill Landrum.

Cleveland Indians -- Agreed to terms with IF Jeff Schaefer (Maryland) on a minor-league contract.

Florida Marlins -- Agreed to terms with C Benito Santiago on a two-year contract.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Agreed to terms with SS Jay Bell and P John Candelaria on a one-year contract.

San Diego Padres -- Acquired P Pat Gomez from the Texas Rangers for P Terry Bross.

San Francisco Giants -- Named Dusty Baker manager, Bobby Bonds first-base and hitting coach, and Dick Pole pitching coach. Announced that Bob Lillis, bench coach, and Wendell Kim, third-base coach, will return to those positions and that Bob Brenly, first-base coach, will shift to bullpen coach.

Basketball Boston Celtics -- Granted G Sherman Douglas temporary leave from the team for personal reasons.

Indianapolis Pacers -- Placed G Pooh Richardson (pulled abdominal muscle) on the injured list. Activated G Sean Green from the injured list.

Phoenix Suns -- Placed C Oliver Miller on the injured list. Activated F Richard Dumas, a 1991 draft pick who did not play in the NBA last season after failing a drug test, from the suspended list.

Global Basketball Association -- Announced that the league will assume control of the South Georgia Blues beginning Saturday.

Columbus Horizon (CBA) -- Traded former Washington Bullets F-C Ed Horton to the Rockford Lightning for third- and fourth-round draft picks in 1993.

Colleges Cornell -- Named William Hall assistant men's lacrosse coach.

Florida -- Suspended LB Henry Haston and LB Marquette Oliver from the Gator Bowl because of class attendance problems.

Nevada -- Suspended FS Xavier Kairy from the Las Vegas Bowl for failing to meet academic requirements.

Stonehill -- Announced that Dave Swanton has resigned as football coach but will remain as offensive-line coach. Named Connie Driscoll coach.

Football Cincinnati Bengals -- Placed OT Anthony Munoz on the practice squad. Released CB Antoine Bennett. Signed DE Tony Savage. Signed WR Elbert Turner to their practice squad.

Detroit Lions -- Placed C Leonard Burton and C Blake Miller on IR. Signed C Mike McDonald and C Brad Leggett.

Seattle Seahawks -- Announced the retirement of third-string QB Rusty Hilger, effective immediately.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Waived LB Sidney Coleman.

Tampa Bay Storm (AFL) -- Named Lary Kuharich coach and signed him to a three-year contract.

Vancouver Canucks -- Recalled LW Shawn Antoski from AHL Hamilton.
