2 Glenelg High seniors bring home 4-H awards from Chicago

Cheryl Seymour and Matthew Murray, two teen-agers from western Howard County, received national awards at the 1992 National 4-H Congress that was held Dec. 5-9 in Chicago.

Cheryl won her award for clothing. The 16-year-old Glenelg High School senior has been involved in the 4-H clothing project for eight years. She has made a lined wool jacket with welt pockets and bound buttonholes.

She also sews kimonos for premature babies in Washington, a project that she began.

Matthew won his award for leadership. The 16-year-old Glenelg High School senior has been a 4-H member for nine years. He spends most of his time doing junior leadership work.

He has held many 4-H offices including historian, parliamentarian, vice president and president. He has used his interests in sheep and archery to create workshops geared for youth.

Also participating in the congress were Jason Spicer of Mount Airy, Katie Norman of Fulton, Tanya Iager of Fulton, Laura Stull of Mount Airy, Jason Keplinger of Mount Airy and Jason Hough of Mount Airy.


* 17600 block of Old Frederick Road: A camcorder and jewelry were taken from a residence between 3:10 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. Monday by someone who shattered a window.
