Three arrested in loitering in Mount Airy

State police arrested two men and a juvenile yesterday after they allegedly were loitering near a stolen car in a Mount Airy parking lot, police said.

At 1:25 a.m., State Police Tfc. Craig Williams noticed two cars in the parking lot behind the Mount Airy Car Wash on Main Street. As he approached, he saw "three suspicious males" standing near the cars, according to a state police news release.

One of the cars, a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro, was reported stolen from Hoff Court in Mount Airy, the release said.

The three suspects allegedly had been driving through Mount Airy searching vehicles and stealing credit cards, police said.

Arrested and charged with auto theft, misdemeanor theft and malicious destruction of property were Meredith Richard Boyd, 20, of the 13000 block of Glissans Mill Road in Mount Airy; Michael Arnold Hood, 21, of the 6300 block of Beechfield Ave., Elkridge; and a 17-year-old male from the Mount Airy area.

The juvenile was released to his parents yesterday, while state police continued to detain Mr. Boyd and Mr. Hood at the Westminster barracks for investigation, said Sgt. Stephen Reynolds, a state police spokesman.

* Mount Airy: Mount Airy responded to an open 911 phone line on Hampton Court at 7:12 p.m. Monday. Units were out for 18 minutes.
