* Carolyn Manuszak was honored by the Polish Heritage Association of Maryland for her contributions to higher education in the state. Ms. Manuszak is president of Villa Julie College in Stevenson.

* Adele Rush, a producer at Maryland Public Television, won a Silver Apple award for "Baby Phases Quiz" from the National Education Film & Video Festival honoring excellence in independent educational documentaries. The project also got a blue ribbon at the American Film & Video Association Festival.

* Susan Plumly, of Timonium, field sales manager with Lady Remington Fashion Jewelry, won top unit seller award and a $1,000 cash bonus.

* WBAL Radio, Baltimore's News-Talk station, received top honors from the Society of Professional Journalists for news reporting, general reporting, public service, AAA Steering Wheel award, commentary, documentary, sports reporting, and investigative reporting.

* John R. Isaac of Columbia was noted for sales excellence by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.

* Louis E. Hyman and Paul E. Burke III, Baltimore area agents of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., won "Top 100" awards for being among the 100 best sales performers.

* Harvey B. Goss, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance agent, won the "Emerald Class" award for generating sales in excess of $7 million for the year.

* Howard D. Goldman III, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance agent, won the "Diamond Class" award for generating sales in excess of $10 million.

* Colliflower Inc. placed second in the Parker Hannifin Corp.'s Fluid Connectors Group ranking of top 10 distributors.

* Gail Belt, a sales associate in the Vienna office of Town and Country Properties, was awarded the Marriott Relocation Services Award by the Marriott Corp.

* Alvin D. Katz, CPA and managing director of Katz, Abosch, Windesheim, Gershman and Freedman, P.A., has been appointed to serve his first term on the United Israel Appeal's board of directors.

* The Hyatt Regency Baltimore donated 150 bedspreads and a large quantity of draperies to the Bea Gaddy Homeless Shelter and Warehouse.

* Garnet L. Magsaman, director of human resources planning and staffing at Johns Hopkins Hospital, has been appointed by Gov. William D. Schaefer to a four-year term on the Maryland State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

* David H. Nevins has been elected president for the 1992-1994 term by the Jewish National Fund, Maryland/Delaware region. Mr. Nevins is president of Nevins and Associates, a marketing and public affairs firm.

* Dan A. Colussy was named volunteer chair of the United Way of Central Maryland's 1992 campaign in Anne Arundel County. Mr. Colussy is chairman, president and CEO of UNC Inc.

* The Maryland Conference of Social Concern elected the following officers: Richard Stammer, president; Janis Parks, first vice president; Betty Gehrmann, second vice president; Clara Bailey, secretary, and Judy Dobson, treasurer.

* Lucille Hughes Wagner was appointed director of development of the Hannah More Center School in Reisterstown.

* Columbia Patuxent Rotary elected the following officers: president, Charles McCabe; vice president, Sandra Harriman; treasurer, Dushyant Patel; sergeant-at-arms, Sam Andelman; and secretary, John Crovo.

* Bruce S. Bochner, M.D., assistant professor of clinical immunology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, received the Developing Investigator Award for Immunopharmacology of Allergic Disease, a five-year $350,000 award presented by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology.

* Smith Mead & Associates Inc. has been honored by the International Association of Business Communicators with an award of excellence. The winning project was a news media kit prepared for a local wholesale distributor's recycling program at the Baltimore Zoo.

* Jane M. Brewer has been selected as the first runner-up for 1992 accountant advocate of the year for the state of Maryland. Ms. Brewer is a director at Katz, Abosch, Windesheim, Gershman & Freedman, P.A.

* Lyle K. Benson Jr. has been named financial planner of the year by the LINC/Society of CPA Financial Planners. Mr. Benson is a partner in charge of personal planning services with Coyne & McClean, Chartered.

* Donna Dorsey of Columbia is the 1992 recipient of the Ann Magnussen Award of the American Red Cross. The award is presented annually to a volunteer registered nurse who has made an outstanding contribution to strengthening or improving American Red Cross programs and services.

* Karen L. Plumer received the president's award from the Prince George's County Bar Association in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the bar and the community. Ms. Plumer is an associate attorney with Levan, Schimel, Belman, & Abramson.

* Frank E. DeVito of Bankers Life & Casualty Co. received the Leading Producers Qualifier award. * FutureHealth, a managed health care company, was opened by Claire Rosse at One South Calvert St. in Baltimore.
