Westminster woman hurt in car accident

A 38-year-old woman, injured Wednesday evening when another car made a left turn in front of her, was released from the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore yesterday, a hospital official said.

Margaret Havelin of Westminster was transported to the trauma center in a state police helicopter with possible head, neck and back injuries, police said.

The accident occurred on Route 32 in front of Westminster High School about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The car driven by Ms. Havelin was northbound on the roadway; it collided with a southbound car operated by Paul Shipley, 79, of Westminster.

Police said Mr. Shipley was making a left turn into the high school and drove into the path of the Havelin automobile.

He was treated at the scene of the accident by the crew of a medic unit from Westminster.


* Westminster: Someone removed the tags from a car parked at the 140 Village Shopping Center on Dec. 3. Enterprise Leasing Company told police the loss is estimated at $70.

A 9-year-old female was released to her mother after she was arrested and charged with battery Tuesday in Westminster. Police said the girl allegely struck another 9-year-old female after school. The assault victim told police she was hit in the forehead and kicked in the back by the accused.


* Westminster: Firefighters from the Westminster station responded to a fire alarm sounding in a building on Gist Road. The 5:36 p.m. alarm on Tuesday kept the units out for 25 minutes.

* Finksburg: Gamber firefighters were dispatched to clean up a fuel spill at Finksburg Plaza when about 10 gallons of gasoline leaked from a vehicle on the parking lot. The 9:37 a.m. Wednesday morning incident kept fire units out of service for more than an hour.

* Westminster: A report of a brush fire on Kate Wagner Road near Route 27 required only 22 minutes to investigate. Fire units were unable to locate any blaze following the 11:52 a.m. Wednesday call.
