DEED relocating to larger facility

The state Department of Economic and Employment Development's Columbia office is moving to a new location Dec. 18.

The DEED office, which handles unemployment insurance claims and administers the Maryland Job Service placement services, will move from 9250 Rumsey Road to 7060 Oakland Mills Road.

"This new facility will provide a larger and more convenient situation where we can better accommodate Howard County residents," said Columbia office manager Margaret Askew.

The DEED office offers programs that help match unemployed workers to jobs and provides training to make prospective employees more marketable.

To contact the Columbia DEED office on or after Dec. 18, call: (410) 312-5760 for the main office; (410) 312-5762 for job services; or (410) 312-5774 for a veterans representative.

A 24-hour information line will provide directions to callers who need to visit the new office. That number is 1-800-827-4839.
