Commissioners keep 35 mph speed limit on Hahn Road

December 09, 1992

Carroll commissioners said yesterday they would not decrease the speed limit on Hahn Road to 25 mph from 35 mph as requested by Westminster Mayor W. Benjamin Brown.

The Westminster City Council voted Oct. 26 to decrease the speed limit on the city-owned portion of the road, from Sunshine Way to Route 140, to 25 mph from 35 mph. The county owns Hahn Road from Sunshine Way to Route 27.

In an Oct. 29 letter to the commissioners, Mr. Brown said the council decreased the speed limit on Hahn Road near the new Wal-Mart store because drivers can't see the stoplight at Sunshine Way until they're close to it.

The county's Bureau of Roads Operations recommended the speed limit on the county's part of the road remain at 35 mph, Public Works Director Keith R. Kirschnick said. The county part of Hahn Road is fairly open and wide and the stoplight on that part of the road is visible, he said.
