Driver foils carjacking by using door as weapon

An unidentified man tried to steal a car late Sunday night at a Brooklyn Park intersection, county police reported.

Investigators said a 29-year-old driver was stopped at Belle Grove Road and Route 648 at 10:40 p.m. when a gunman walked up to the driver's side door, put a gun to the man's head and demanded the car.

The gunman told the driver to get out of the car.

When the driver opened the door, he pushed it hard enough to knock the gunman down and drove away.

Police described the gunman as a white man in his late 30s, 5 feet 8 inches with thin brown hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket and faded jeans.
