Hunter accidentally shoots himself

A 31-year-old deer hunter accidentally shot himself in the right foot Saturday afternoon while hunting in Cooksville, county police said.

Mark Allen Jackson of the 1100 block of Haverhill Road in Baltimore was taken by ambulance to Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, where he was in fair condition yesterday afternoon, a nurse said.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. as Mr. Jackson and a friend were hunting deer at Route 97 and Roxbury Road, police said. Mr. Jackson told police he had loaded his shotgun and started walking toward the woods when the gun discharged.

Police said no charges have been filed.

Gas pipeline company seeks building approval

The Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Co. is seeking approval to build a new office building at its Carroll Mill Road property.

The county Board of Appeals will hear testimony tonight about expanding the company's special exception for a new 1,700-square-foot office building. The hearing will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the first floor of the George Howard county office building in Ellicott City.

The new building, a pre-engineered, metal-siding structure, would approximately double the space now shared by the 31 employees of the district office and compressor station on Carroll Mill Road.

If the expansion is approved, it is expected to be built next summer.

The 35-by-50-foot building would cost about $250,000 and "provide the people that are here some up-to-date and enlarged office space," said District Manager H. R. Parks Jr. "We're kind of cramped here as it is."

The company has four main buildings at the 52-acre station, one of more than 30 along the four-pipe, 1,800-mile right-of-way from the Rio Grande in Texas to New York City.

Transcontinental, based in Houston, built the pipeline in 1950.
