Civic Association meets to finalize '94 fiscal budget WEST COUNTY -- Crofton * Odenton

December 07, 1992

The Crofton Civic Association will meet tonight to finalize its $559,000 budget for the 1994 fiscal year.

Over a series of meetings, the 13-member board that governs the special tax district has whittled the town manager's proposed $570,000 budget, which represented a 7 percent increase over last year.

Board members eliminated an 8.1 percent raise for the community counselor, choosing instead to give Linda R. Smith a 2.9 percent cost-of-living increase, the amount the community's eight other employees are to receive.

Association members also cut $500 from a $1,000 increase in employer contributions to the retirement fund -- bringing the total contribution to $1,500. The board also eliminated a new police rank that would have given two of the five officers a $600 raise.

The budget keeps the community's tax rate at 28 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, gives Comptroller Barbara Swann a $2,500 bonus and sets aside $2,500 for a planning and zoning study.

Board members, who tentatively agreed last week on the budget, wanted to keep the budget increase under 5 percent to avoid calling a special meeting.

A final vote will be taken tonight, though little or no debate is expected. The straw vote taken last week was unanimous.
