State police are looking for an Anne Arundel County man in connection with an alleged attempt to run down a state trooper on a Glen Burnie street yesterday morning.

The officer, Tfc. Kyong C. Yi of the Glen Burnie barracks, was not injured. He fired several shots at his assailant, apparently missing.

An arrest warrant was issued yesterday for David Allan White, 25, on charges of attempted murder, assault with intent to murder, assault, theft over $300 and malicious destruction of property.

Police listed two address for Mr. White, one in the 400 block of McBride Lane, Severna Park, the other in the 400 block of Silver Leaf Court in Glen Burnie.

Police described Mr. White as a black male with a medium build and a mustache. He was driving a white Toyota two-door with Maryland tags, ACA 274. The car would have damaged side windows and windshield.

Sgt. Gregory M. Shipley, a state police spokesman, said Mr. White is accused of trying to run over Trooper Yi twice after a car chase through Anne Arundel County.

Police said the incident began around 1:25 a.m. yesterday when Trooper Yi spotted a man standing near an abandoned pickup truck on the shoulder of southbound Interstate 97 north of Route 848. As the trooper stopped to investigate, the suspect entered a white Toyota and drove away, police said.

Trooper Yi noticed the rear window of the truck was broken and immediately pursued the Toyota. The trooper chased the Toyota along I-97 to Dorsey Road, then onto Central Avenue.

On Central Avenue, the driver lost control of the Toyota, which spun around, striking a fence and then was struck by Trooper Yi's cruiser, police said.

The driver then attempted to flee north on Central Avenue but Trooper Yi maneuvered his car to block the escape route.

Trooper Yi got out of his police cruiser and ordered the suspect to stop, but the driver instead allegedly drove directly at the trooper. Trooper Yi fired several shots at the driver, then tried to jump out of the way of the Toyota, police said.

The driver allegedly veered his car in the direction of the fleeing trooper.

The suspect fled south on Central Avenue and turned west on Dorsey Road.
