First female director joins Martin board

BETHESDA -- Martin Marietta Corp. has elected Gwendolyn King to its board, making her the aerospace contractor's first female director.

Ms. King, 52, is a senior vice president of public affairs at Philadelphia Electric Co. and served as Social Security commissioner from 1989 until earlier this year.

Ms. King is the 14th board member at Martin Marietta.

Martin Marietta last month agreed to buy General Electric Co.'s aerospace unit for $3.05 billion. Martin Marietta agreed to back GE's nomination of two members to its board, for a total of 16 directors.
