Players to watch GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PREVIEW

* Chris Baer, Old Mill, 5-6, Sr., G -- As the starting point guard, she averaged 7.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.0 assists.

* Julie Barr, Broadneck, 5-11, Jr., C -- Barr was considered one of the top sophomore centers in the county last year and is a strong rebounder.

* Anne Chicorelli, Old Mill, 6-1, Sr., F -- As a part-time starter, Chicorelli averaged 5.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals. She blocked 52 shots.

* Debbie Dawson, Old Mill, 6-0, Sr., F -- Dawson averaged 4.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals, and she blocked 19 shots.

* Joy Farmer, North County, 6-0, Jr., C -- Farmer averaged 9.7 points and 12.2 rebounds. She'll have to help compensate for the graduation of All-County forward Renita Johnson.

* Shannon Henderson, Annapolis, 6-1, Jr., F -- Currently ineligible, Henderson, 6 feet 1, can be dominant inside. She was the team's second-leading rebounder.

* Stacy Himes, Old Mill, 5-10, Sr., G/F -- Himes may be the most complete player in the county. She averaged 10.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 3.7 steals and 1.2 blocked shots.

* Jennifer Johansen, Northeast, 5-3, Soph., G -- Johansen averaged 14.0 points. She will be counted on more this season after graduation left the Eagles with a guard-oriented team.

* Amy Langville, Archbishop Spalding, 5-8, Sr., G -- Langville averaged 13.0 points while getting 150 assists and recording 96 steals for the 8-17 Cavaliers. She was named to the All-Catholic League Team.

* Missy Lewandowski, Broadneck, 5-8, Sr., F -- Lewandowski is expected to be one of the Bruins' top scorers.

* Sarah Melby, Arundel, 5-9, Sr., F -- A four-year player, Melby should be one of the county's top inside players.

* Denise Perrone, Chesapeake, 5-9, Sr., G-F -- Perrone is the lone senior on Chesapeake's team, and a player new coach Dennis Thiele can build around. She averaged 11.2 points and made the All-County third team.

* Katie Sell, Meade, 5-4, Jr., G -- A fine ballhandler, Sell can lead the Mustangs from the doldrums.

* Alina Smith, Arundel, 5-5, Sr., G -- A four-year starter, Smith has strong leadership qualities and plays aggressively.

* Bridget Smith, St. Mary's, 5-4, Jr., G -- Smith begins her third season as a starter for the Saints. As a sophomore, she earned second-team All-County honors. She averaged 8.5 assists, 5.0 steals and 5.0 rebounds.

* Laekeka Wesley, Southern, 5-11, Jr., F -- Wesley averaged 13.6 points and 11.0 rebounds last season, leading the Bulldogs into the Class 2A, Region III playoffs and a 14-10 record.
