Wounded man found lying near Brockbridge Road

An unidentified man was found shot in the shoulder on the side of a Laurel road early yesterday morning, county police reported.

Investigators said a passer-by found the man lying on the side of Brockbridge Road near the Prince George's County line at 8:30 a.m.

The man was taken by helicopter to the Shock Trauma Unit at Prince George's Hospital Center. His condition was not known last night.

Police last night did not know how or when the shooting occurred.

Silverware reported stolen

A Gambrills man reported to police that someone stole more than $19,000 in sterling silverware from his home sometime between February and November.

According to the police report, the 69-year-old man told police that his wife, who died in February, used to take care of the silverware.

He said he went into the dinning room on Nov. 20 to inventory the property when he found that the silverware was missing.

Police said they have no suspects.

Illinois man thwarts motel robbery

An Illinois man staying at a Laurel motel thwarted a robber who threatened to kill his wife if he did not turn over his money Sunday night, county police reported.

According to the police report, the 62-year-old woman and her husband were in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn on Route 198 at 9:30 p.m. when a man grabbed the woman and put a knife to her throat.

He demanded her money and her husband took out a handgun and pointed it at him. The robber let the woman go and ran across the parking lot.

* Severn: Thieves broke into the Star Electric Co. in the 8100 block of Telegraph Road Friday and stole copper cable valued at $1,500.

* Severn: A man reported to police that someone broke into his home in the 7800 block of Stafford Hill Court Sunday and stole money and jewelry.

* Severn: A man reported to police that someone broke into his home in the 1300 block of Paul Drive Monday and stole several guns.

* Severn: Thieves broke into a home in the 8100 block of Spaulding Circle Saturday by forcing open the French doors. Police do not know exactly what was taken.

* Severn: Burglars stole several tools from a home in the 700 block of Donaldson Ave. sometime between last Sunday and Thursday. The property was valued at $800.

* Pioneer City: A resident of the 8200 block of Pioneer Circle reported to police that someone broke into her home Monday and stole several video games. The property was valued at $340.
