Free food available for eligible residents

The Community Action Council will distribute surplus federal food to eligible county residents Dec. 10 at the National Guard Armory in Ellicott City. Peanut butter, green beans, butter and cornmeal are among the foods available.

To receive free food, a household must be certified for any one of the following programs: Food Stamps, General Public Assistance, Aid to Families with Dependent Children or Medical Assistance.

If households can't meet the above criteria, they must prove that their incomes do not exceed 150 percent of federal poverty guidelines. For example, the income for a family of four cannot exceed $20,925 annually. Proof of income must be confirmed with pay stubs, security award letters, a 1991 W-2 form or unemployment check stubs. Those wishing to receive food are asked to bring bags to the distribution site.

Food will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory on Route 103 in Ellicott City. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help may contact Community Action at 313-7240.

Delegation meeting postponed until Jan. 4

A meeting of the Howard County state delegation that had been scheduled for tonight to vote on proposed legislation has been postponed until Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.
