Police schedule safety seminar at Glenwood

County police will conduct a personal safety seminar tomorrow night at Glenwood Middle School, in part to address residents' concerns about the abduction and rape of a Mount Airy woman last week.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the school, 2680 Route 97. During the meeting, officers will inform residents about ways to keep from becoming victims.

The meeting also will give the public a chance to ask questions about the Nov. 23 rape of the woman, who was forced from her home about 11 a.m. and into a car by a man with a shotgun, police said.

The kidnapper blindfolded the 22-year-old woman and took her to a house, where he raped her. Then he drove her to the 19800 block of Zion Road in Laytonsville in Montgomery County, police said.

After he freed the woman, she went to a nearby house and called police about 2:45 p.m., police said.

Police believe the rapist may also be responsible for the May 14 rape and kidnapping of a 19-year-old Dayton woman who was taken at gunpoint from her home about 10:45 a.m.

That woman also was taken to a house and raped, police said. Hours later, the attacker dropped her off at a commuter parking lot near routes 29 and 216.
