Executive Committee to appoint panel today to look into Schott allegations

December 01, 1992|By New York Daily News

NEW YORK -- Baseball's ruling Executive Committee was t announce the formation of a committee today to look into the allegations of racist remarks against Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott.

The committee, which will include both league presidents -- Bill White and Bobby Brown -- a small group of owners from both leagues and National League attorney Robert Kheel, will recommend disciplinary action when the owners convene during the winter meetings in Louisville, Ky., next week.

The problem facing the owners in debating what action to take against Schott is that no one has corroborated the most recent charges, those by former Oakland A's executve assistant Sharon Jones.

But an Executive Council source told the New York Daily News the council believes a corroborating witness will come forward.
