1992 All-Metro cross country team THE GIRLS TEAM

November 30, 1992

* Kristen Friz, Dulaney, Sr. -- Running behind the Lions' No. runner, Amanda White, helped Friz to improve into perhaps the area's second-best runner. Friz placed third in Baltimore County, and was a runner-up in both the regional and 4A state meets, with her state-meet finish (18:55) being the area's second-fastest clocking. She was 22nd in 19:32 at Saturday's Kinney regional meet in New York.

* Alicia Adams, Glenelg, Jr. -- Adams won her second straight Howard County title after finishing second to her sister, Kristina, as a freshman. Her county time of 19:25 eclipsed her sister's county record by a second. She also won the regional and state championships for the Gladiators.

* Bridget Olp, Catonsville, Fr. -- Only a freshman, Olp edged Friz for runner-up finish to Amanda White in Baltimore County. Olp followed that feat with a regional title, then placed fifth in the state 3A meet, crossing the line in 19:41.

* Megan Makowski, Perry Hall, Soph. -- Makowski, a steady runner, placed fourth in Baltimore County behind Friz and fifth in the state 4A meet in 19:45. White, Friz and Makowski finished 1-2-3 in the regional meet.

* Dana Strickland, Atholton, Fr. -- After missing three weeks with an ankle injury, Strickland placed a disappointing fifth in the Howard County meet, but rebounded with a regional crown. She capped her season by taking eighth place in the state 3A meet in 19:53.

* Ali Jones, Francis Scott Key, Fr. -- Jones was the Carroll County champion and the winner of the South Carroll Invitational. She followed her third-place finish in the regional meet with a third-place finish in the state 1A meet, finishing in 20:10.

* Becky Foster, Towson, Fr. -- Foster sandwiched a regional title -- her first high school victory -- between a fifth-place finish in Baltimore County and a third place in the state 2A meet.

* Kari Meyer, Centennial, Fr. -- Meyer finished third in the Howard County meet, ahead of Strickland, before placing second to Strickland in the regional meet. Although she was 12th in the 3A states, Meyer finished in 20:02 -- seventh-fastest among area runners.

* Kristen Nicolini, Annapolis, Soph. -- Nicolini, who was 11th in the state meet, won the Anne Arundel County meet in a course-record 18:22, beating the second-place runner by more than two minutes. In Saturday's Kinney regional meet she finished 16th in 19:26.
