100 Years Ago

* A destructive forest fire has been burning north of the Severn River extending westward and consuming about 1,000 acres of timber land. The fire started when a boy endeavored to burn down a tree, in the hollow of which a 'coon or 'possum had taken refuge, on the farm of Mr. John J. Doblin.

* Anne Arundel County Treasurer Frank W. Owens was thrown from his buggy and injured while driving to his home in Friendship yesterday. The vehicle struck an obstruction which caused the horse to run away and throwing Mr. Owens with violent force onto the road. The horse reached home in advance of Mr. Owens, which caused alarm on the part of his family.
