HARFORD SCHOOL NOTES

On tour Analisa B. Janda, daughter of Thomas and Jobeth Janda of Forest Hill, received the 1992 Sommerville Scholarship at Lynchburg College, in Virginia.

In memory of Dr. Richard Clark Sommerville, professor of philosophy and psychology at Lynchburg College from 1928 to 1947, the scholarship was established by his colleagues and friends and is awarded annually to a senior student who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship and good character shown through ideals and conduct for three years.

Ms. Janda has been on the dean's list every semester since her freshman year.

She is an active member of Gold Key and Cardinal Key, national honor societies which recognize scholarship and leadership abilities. She chairs the honor board, a branch of the Student Government Association, which upholds and enforces the college as defined under the honor code.

A member of the Student Orientation Staff, Ms. Janda helps familiarize incoming students with college life and advises them on course registration. She has also taken part in many leadership conferences through the college.

Ms. Janda, a graduate of C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air, is majoring in political science and English and has an overall grade point average of 3.87 on a 4.0 scale.

Fitzgerald picked for leadership seminar

Erin Fitzgerald, a 10th grade CAD (computer-aided design)drafting student at Harford Technical High School, has been selected as an ambassador to the 35th Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Seminar.

The foundation seeks out, recognizes and rewards the leadership potential of high school sophomores through a series of give-and-take workshops during the three-day weekend seminar.

Erin will attend the state-wide seminar and will also have a chance to be chosen to attend the World Leadership Congress.

Erin currently is vice-president of the Harford Technical School's student government association. She is on the Envirathon Team and was a temporary missionary in Comayagua, Honduras.

She also placed 33rd in the 1991 cross country state final.
