Dr. Lehman Spry Jr.receives Casey award

Dr. Lehman W. Spry Jr., of Havre de Grace, is the recipient of the 1992 William J. Casey Award.

The award is presented for superlative contributions to the American Red Cross and the greater community.

Dr. Spry has been the Northeastern District board chairman since 1989. He has organized many successful Red Cross programs, including a dinner auction fund-raising event and the community outreach breakfast.

He is currently working on the Northeast District office building renovation.

Lawrence G. Grabarek has been named director of research at the Houston Post.

Mr. Grabarek joined the Post in 1990. He has more than 14 years of newspaper research experience.

He has held management positions with Gannett Newspaper Sales, the Chicago Tribune, and The Baltimore Sun.

A native of Harford County, Mr. Grabarek is a 1970 graduate of Aberdeen High School and a 1974 graduate of the University of Maryland.

Piper named chief of security at HCC

Edward G. Piper was named chief of security at Harford Community College. He will be responsible for planning, implementing and maintaining safety and security operations for the HCC campus.

Prior to joining the HCC staff, Mr. Piper was a security/management consultant.

His resume also reflects 18 years of diversified experience in security, law enforcement, training, administration, investigation, and intelligence.

He earned an associate of arts degree in law enforcement, a bachelor's degree in history and political science, and is pursuing a master's degree in public administration at the University of Baltimore, as well as graduate studies in business management at the Johns Hopkins University.

Pannill named to college committee

W. Stephen Pannill, Harford Community College vice president of administration and finance, has been named to the Two Year College Committee of the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers. The group is affiliated with the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Mr. Pannill earned a bachelor's degree in management from the University of Baltimore and a master's degree in management and supervision from Central Michigan University.

HCC Foundation appoints new members

The Harford Community College Foundation Inc. recently appointed five new members to its board of directors. The new appointees, who will serve three-year terms, are Manuel Alban of the Federal Hispanic-American Organization; Brian Lynch of -Z Comcast Cable; Larry Marshall of Little Caesar's Pizza; Charles Mross, president and CEO of Franklin Square Hospital; and Michael Molyneux of American Cyanamid.
