It's time to take the family 'Carol'ing

It's "A Christmas Carol" time again, so round up all the little Cratchits in your household and take your pick:

An adaptation directed by Suzanne Beal opens Wednesday at Fells Point Corner Theatre, 251 S. Ann St., (410) 276-7837, and continues through Dec. 13. Show times are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. Tickets are $9. Leslie Bricusse's musical, "Scrooge," opens Friday at the Spotlighters, 817 St. Paul St., (410) 752-1225, and runs through Dec. 20; show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 and $9.

If these local versions don't leave you feeling full of the Dickens, you can always try Ford's Theatre in Washington, where "A Christmas Carol" continues through Jan. 3. Tickets are $23-$32. Call (202) 347-4833 for curtain times. Or, hitch up the sleigh and head for Central Center, 285 East Queen St., Chambersburg, Pa., where Totem Pole Playhouse is presenting its annual production, starring Baltimore actor Wil Love, Thursday through Dec. 20. Tickets are $10-$14. Call (717) 267-3582 for curtain times.

@ Whatever one thinks about Nadia Salerno-Sonnenberg, she's a musician who's brought violin playing to vixenish new heights. No matter. Audiences everywhere love to listen to (and watch) this vibrant young woman, who plays her instrument as it were a matter of life and death. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:15 p.m., she joins conductor Sergiu Comissiona and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to play Barber's Violin Concerto. The other works on the program are Ravel's "Rhapsodie Espagnole" and Falla's "Three-Cornered Hat," both Comissiona specialties. Tickets are $20-$45. Call (410) 783-8000 or (800) 442-1198 for tickets.
