Piney Run Nature Center is preparing for one of its holiday traditions -- the "Country Holiday Crafts" event.

Christmas carols will be played during demonstrations and craft time from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 5.

Workshops will be given on making evergreen garlands, door swags, evergreen centerpieces and pine cone, evergreen and grapevine wreaths.

Experienced instructors include Don Smith, Melinda Byrd, Deanna Hoffman, Elaine Sweitzer, Pam Katz and Polly Tomlinson.

Instruction will also be available in making pine cone creatures, such as bears or gnomes -- and on making homes for gnomes out of gourds. According to Elaine Sweitzer, the gourds are very warty this year, good for crafts.

Joanne Neil will demonstrate bread-making and bake in the Colonial oven, and samples will be offered.

Lunch of chili, soup, bread and dessert will be available for a nominal fee. People wishing to contribute items should call 705-6043.

All workshops are for adults 16 and older.

Information on times and availability can be obtained by calling 705-6043.
