Curtis D. Whetzel Homebuilder

Curtis D. Whetzel, a retired homebuilder, died Sunday of heart failure at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Services for Mr. Whetzel, who was 71 and had lived for the past two years in Berlin, are to be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Taylor Funeral Chapel in Annapolis.

Mr. Whetzel, who had lived in Catonsville and then Annapolis before moving to Berlin, retired about two years ago after operating the Whetzel Construction Co. for many years. He built houses in the Catonsville area and later in Ocean Pines.

He was born and educated in Mathias, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife, the former Pauline Fuhrman; a daughter, Ruth Dellinger of Woodstock, Va.; four stepdaughters, Elizabeth Dennig, Lorie Rawlings and Marion Lipinski, all of Annapolis, and Jane DeMaine of Binghamton, N.Y.; two brothers, Carmel Whetzel of Randallstown and Boyd Whetzel of Harrisonburg, Va.; five sisters, Mary See of Catonsville, and Ollie Mountjoy, Edie Crowder, Edna Summers and Pauline Fishel, all of Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
