Authority on children of alcoholics to speak

Robert Ackerman, Ph.D., a noted authority on children of alcoholics, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at North Carroll High School.

The 90-minute program, entitled "Let Go and Grow: New Hope for Children of Alcoholics," is sponsored by the Institute for Drug and Alcohol Abuse Education at Carroll Community College.

Mr. Ackerman, professor of sociology at the University of Indiana at Pennsylvania and director of the Mid-Atlantic Addictions Training Institute, has served as a consultant to ABC movies "Shattered Spirits" and "Keeping Secrets." He has also appeared on many television programs including the "Today Show," "Oprah," and "Geraldo."

A founder of the National Association for the Children of Alcoholics, Mr. Ackerman is the author of 11 books, including the best-selling "Children of Alcoholics" and "Perfect Daughters." Admission is $5.

* Hampstead: Firefighters from Hampstead were dispatched to assist Baltimore County at a chimney fire on Hunter Green Road. The 10:08 p.m. blaze kept Hampstead units out of service for 30 minutes.
