Sykesville sells land on Route 32

Sykesville has sold a strip of land at the intersection of Sandosky Road and Route 32 to Allen B. and Charlene Gillis for $2,000.

The Gillises of Marriottsville own a small shopping center at the corner and wanted the site, which is about a third of an acre, as a buffer zone.

"It was a burden to us to maintain," said Town Manager James Schumacher. "They are going to use it as a landscape buffer. They will be planting there soon."

The next visit is for Wednesday. Information: 795-1700.

* Sykesville: Firefighters from the Sykesville and Gamber stations responded to an alarm on Liberty Road at 12:16 p.m. Saturday but were out of the station only five minutes.
