Morgan's Smith suspended

November 21, 1992|By From Staff Reports

Jarrad Smith, Morgan State's center, will be suspended for one basketball game, most likely an exhibition next week, for his involvement in an on-field fight that followed the Bears' football victory over Johnson C. Smith on Sept. 26.

Smith, a 6-foot-11, 300-pound sophomore from Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., who averaged 8.4 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds last season, came on the field and participated in the fight between Johnson C. Smith and Morgan State football players.

Morgan State basketball coach Michael Holmes said he is attempting to arrange an exhibition game sometime next week.

If the Bears don't play an exhibition, Smith would sit out the Dec. 1 season opener at George Mason.

* BIG SOUTH: Towson State, in its first season in the conference, has been picked for second place behind Liberty by writers and broadcasters.
