Baltimore City

BURGLARY: Western District -- A TV and a VCR, together worth nearly $600, and $15 were stolen from a house in the 1300 block of W. Lanvale St.

ASSAULT: Western District -- A resident of the 1100 block of N. Stockton St. was cut on the arm Wednesday by a woman while the victim was attempting to drive away from in front of her home during an argument.

THEFT: Western District -- Two men stole a leather jacket valued at $750 and $85 worth of food stamps from a house in the 2500 block of Francis St. Tuesday night.

THEFT: Western District -- Tools valued at $150 were stolen from a 1984 Chevrolet Tuesday in the 1500 block of W. North Ave. Entry was by breaking a window.

THEFT: Western District -- A VCR and TV, all valued at more than $700, were stolen from a house in the 1900 block of W. North Ave. Tuesday morning.

ASSAULT: Western District -- A visitor at a home in the 900 block of N. Carey St. hit a resident with a telephone Wednesday morning.

THEFT: Western District -- Police were seeking a 27-year-old woman who entered a house in the 2000 block of W. North Ave. Tuesday morning and stole $150 and a set of keys.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A clothes dryer valued at $350 was stolen from a house in the 1800 block of Kavanaugh St. early Wednesday morning.

AUTO THEFT: Western District -- A 1988 Isuzu was stolen from the 1000 block of W. Lexington St. between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A Lauretta Ave. resident was robbed of $200 and hit with fists in the 200 block of N. Carey St. by a man Wednesday morning.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A full-length coat valued at more than $700 was stolen from a house in the 1100 block of N. Carrollton Ave. by someone who entered through a second-floor rear window.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 200 block of N. Payson St. was robbed of $20 Wednesday afternoon by a man who attacked him in the 2800 block of Frederick Ave.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Two men, one with a pistol, robbed a North Washington Street resident of an undisclosed sum of money Wednesday afternoon in the 700 block of Poplar Grove St.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- A gunman robbed a male resident of the 2700 block of Virginia Ave. of a pack of cigarettes near the victim's home Tuesday night, then fired a shot at him after telling him to run. The victim was not hit.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A VCR and a compact disc player, all valued at more than $500, were stolen from a house in the 2800 block of N. Calvert St. Wednesday afternoon.

THEFT: Northern District -- Several rolls of copper tubing valued at more than $1,300 were stolen Tuesday from a construction site at Johns Hopkins University.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A VCR and stereo equipment, all valued at nearly $800, were stolen Wednesday night from a house in the 3000 block of N. Calvert St. by someone who entered through a rear bathroom window.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Two men, one with a pistol, robbed a resident of the 2600 block of Flax Terrace of her purse containing cash and property, all valued at $180, Wednesday night as she got out of her car in a garage near her home. The woman was forced down onto the garage floor during the robbery but escaped injury.

Baltimore County

MURDER TRY/ARREST: Garrison District -- James L. Large, 22, of the 1700 block of E. Deep Run Road in Manchester, Carroll County, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempting to kill and rape his employer, the owner of a farm on Knox Ave. in Reisterstown. Mr. Large was leaving his job at 5 p.m. Wednesday when he became involved in an argument with the woman. She was struck several times with a shovel, falling to the ground. The attempt at rape followed. The suspect later surrendered at the State Police barracks in Westminster, telling officers he had assaulted a woman. When police arrived at the farm, they found the woman bleeding from multiple head, arm and hand injuries. She was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and listed today in serious condition. Mr. Large is being held at the Garrison station without bond.

ROBBERY: Garrison District -- A 25-year-old woman from Milford Mill was robbed of her purse Wednesday evening while walking across the parking lot of the Basics food market in the 8200 block of Liberty Road. The robber, a man dressed in a purple sweat suit and black jacket, escaped.

OFFICER ASSAULTED: Essex District -- Officer Frank Harden was injured early today while he and other officers were arresting two men for drug violations at Bowleys Quarters Road and Susquehanna Avenue. During a minor struggle with one of the suspects, Officer Harden sustained a knee injury and was taken by police car to the Francis Scott Key Medical Center. Both suspects face narcotics charges. One of the men was expected to be charged with assaulting Officer Harden.
