Harford Flash wins WAGS title

The under-14 Fallston-based Harford United Flash (20-2-2) won the Division I championship of the Washington Area Girls Soccer League last Sunday with a 1-0 victory over host Prince William (Va.) 79's and a 1-0 forfeit win over the Springfield (Va.) Legend.

With 20 minutes remaining in the game against Prince William, inside halfback Haley DeLaurence converted a pass from right wing Karen Tiedemann for the game-winner.

The Flash defense limited Prince William to three shots on keeper Tina Steck, all in the first half.

The team was 10-0 against WAGS competition, and outscored its opponents by a 26-2 margin.

* Joppatowne defeated Fallston, 1-0, in a defensive battle in Baltimore Metro Girls Soccer League action Sunday.

With one minute remaining in the game, Joppatowne forward Nikki Terzigni converted a header into the upper corner of the goal for the game-winner. Sara Biggs assisted.

* The Bel Air travel team (6-1-2) defeated Emmorton, 4-1, in a Baltimore Metro League soccer game Sunday.

Julie Dorney scored twice, and Jennifer Westervelt and Nicole Thrift each scored once. Assists were credited to Meghan Riesner, Madeleine Thompson, Christine Johnson and Adrienne Justis.

* Under-12: Bel Air played Rosedale to a 0-0 tie in Baltimore Metro League action Sunday. Defensive efforts from Bel Air's Lindsay Thompson, Madaline Thompson, Karren Stevenson and goalkeepers Nicole Muler and Jenny Cook kept Rosedale scoreless.
