Four colleges were awarded $2.7 million yesterday by the Hodson Trust, a 71-year-old charitable fund established by the founder of the Beneficial Corp.
The trust fund awards money annually to four Maryland schools: Johns Hopkins University, and St. John's, Washington and Hood colleges.
This year, $803,970.25 was given to the Johns Hopkins University, Washington and Hood colleges, while St. John's received $300,000, trust officials said.
