Police, FBI probe Sykesville bank robbery SOUTHEAST -- Sykesville * Eldersburg * Gamber

November 09, 1992

The Maryland State Police, in conjunction with the FBI, are investigating Friday night's bank robbery in Sykesville, but they have little to report.

"As soon as we have something, it will be released," Tfc. Michael Cain of the Maryland State Police said yesterday.

The theft occurred around 7:30 p.m. A man wearing gloves and a dark-colored ski mask covering his head and face entered the Columbia Bank on Sykesville Road and demanded money from the tellers at gunpoint, police said.

As he left the bank, a dye pack in the money exploded, and the robber dropped a large sum of money in the parking lot. He is believed to have escaped in a dark-colored pickup truck.

It is not known how much money the robber got.

Anyone with information about the crime should call Trooper Cain at the Westminster State Police Barracks, at 876-8943.
