Community college professor honored

Linda L. Johnston, a health education professor at Howard Community College, has been named 1992 Health Educator of the Year by the Maryland Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Ms. Johnston was chosen for her utilization of innovative learning techniques and a balanced and sequential curriculum. The group also cited her involvement in professional activities and community services at the local, state and national level.

She currently serves as vice president-elect of health for the Eastern District Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Ms. Johnston served as president of the Maryland organization in 1988-89.

Ms. Johnston has served on the Howard Community College faculty since 1981.

School values education to be featured on TV

A discussion of the Howard County Public School System's "Values Education Program" is this month's topic on "Viewpoint," a program that focuses on education issues.

Guest will be Associate Superintendent Joan Palmer, Instructional Director Edward Alexander, Principal Marianne Pfeiffer and parents Rosemary Slack and Lorina Klinger.

"Viewpoint" airs at 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday and at 6 p.m. Tuesday on Cable Channel 8, the county's educational channel.
