November 09, 1992

JESSUP -- A 31-year-old Columbia man was killed yesterday when his motorcycle hit a car that was leaving a shopping center parking lot on U.S. 1 in Jessup.

Gary Stephens Belhumeur of the 9000 block of Early April Way was taken by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital and then flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Howard County police said the accident occurred about 11:15 a.m. when Mr. Belhumeur lost control of his southbound 1992 Harley Davidson in trying to avoid a 1984 Pontiac Firebird that was leaving the Jessup Plaza Shopping Center just north of Route 175.

The driver of the car, Troy Douglas Carroll, 28, of the 7700 block of Washington Blvd., in Waterloo, was not hurt, police said.
