25 Years Ago (week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4, 1967):

* Four members of an Ellicott City family suffered rat bites in the same week. This made a total of six rat bites reported in one month in the county. The Ellicott City family lived in a privately owned house on Main Street. The other two rat bite victims were children living in One Spot, near Waterloo.

* The new city of Columbia celebrated its first wedding this week. Miss Frances Conway Whitecarver of Bryant Woods married John Robert Williams of Ellicott City. The ceremony was held at St. Mary's Chapel at Doughoregan Manor, and the reception took place at Slayton House near Wilde Lake.

50 Years Ago (week of Nov. 1-7, 1942):

* John F. O'Malley, a political figure in Howard County for over 40 years, died this week after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at Saint Augustine's Catholic Church in Elkridge. Interment took place in the cemetery adjoining the church grounds.
