Calif. firm chosen as Olympic agent

November 08, 1992|By New York Times News Service

Cartan Tours, in Manhattan Beach, Calif., has been chosen by the United States Olympic Committee to be the exclusive American ticket agent for the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Norway. A brochure describing event schedules, ticket prices and venues will be available from Cartan starting Nov. 16. Sports fans will be able to mail in their ticket orders as soon as they receive the events brochure. The company says it expects to be able to start mailing out tickets next May, in the order in which ticket requests were received. It will then continue to accept orders until the games.

The 16-day Winter Games will take place in three towns: Lillehammer, Hamar and Gjovik. The opening ceremonies will be held Feb. 12 and the games will close Feb. 27.

Spectators can buy tickets only from Cartan Tours, but the company will also offer various packages combining tickets, hotel, air travel and meals. Among these plans will be one including airfare, transfers, hotel and daily breakfast in addition to tickets for various events. Another offers travelers an opportunity to stay with local families in the Lillehammer area, which is about 150 miles north of Oslo.

The Norwegian Tourist Board in New York says it has forwarded many ticket inquiries about the games to Cartan Tours. For the brochure being issued later this month, write Cartan Tours, 1334 Parkview Ave., Manhattan Beach, Calif. 90266; (800) 841-1994.
