Top-ranked Severna Park (14-0) yesterday won its eighth Anne Arundel County volleyball championship in nine years and second in a row by defeating seventh-ranked South River, 3-1.

In the final regular season match for both schools, the Falcons won, 15-5, 15-8, 15-17, 15-4.

The Falcons -- defending Class 4A state champions -- were led by seniors Catherine Kirk, Amy Patton and Kate Marks and juniors Julie Kasprzak and Jen Conner. Kirk had 11 kills and seven blocks.

South River (11-4) forced the extra game after eight ties. The Seahawks, led by junior Pam Patterson, first took the lead at 13-12, and two more ties followed before Patterson's hitting won it for Severna Park.
