Towson, UMBC advance to final of women's soccer invitational

Freshman forward Tracy Zettle scored the game-winner at 38:02 to lead visiting Towson State (2-12) over Liberty (4-6), 3-0, yesterday in a semifinal of the women's soccer Big South Invitational at UMBC.

Towson advances to today's final against UMBC at 3 p.m.

Freshman midfielders Nicola Rust and Courtney McClelland added insurance goals at 49:53 and 75:02. Towson outshot Liberty 12 to six.

UMBC 7, UNC-Asheville 0

Freshman forward Denise Schilte scored the first two goals in the opening nine minutes to lead host UMBC (10-7) over UNC-Asheville (1-13) in a semifinal of the Big South Invitational.

UMBC will play host to Towson in today's final at 3 p.m. Senior sweeper Debbie Tripp also had two goals.

Sophomore midfielder Sheila Osterman, junior midfielder Sue Feliciano and senior stopper Kim Glaze had single goals.

The Retrievers outshot UNC-Asheville, 34-0.

Catonsville CC 2, Anne Arundel CC 0

Angela Farace had two goals and Karen Fagan and Jenelle Williams each had an assist, as Catonsville (12-5) beat Anne Arundel in a Region XX JUCO semifinal game at Essex CC.

Catonsville will play Essex (13-0-1) in the final tomorrow.
