Alcohol use by teens to be discussed at forum

Parents and students in Howard County are invited to "Alcohol Is a Drug, Too," a forum on alcohol and teens from 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Monday at Hammond High School.

Teen drinking on the streets, in cars, and at parties and other gatherings will be discussed by Howard County police.

Some Hammond High students will talk about their experiences with alcohol.

Other speakers include Eileen Dewey, director of adolescent recovery center in Columbia; Joyce Brown, substance abuse impact coordinator in Howard County; and Gene Niblack, an "empowered" parent.

Parents will receive guidance on preventing teen-age drinking and tips on talking to your youngsters about such things as friends and parties.

The forum, sponsored by the Hammond PTA, will include a question and answer period.
